Nytro / Green Lightning Nitrogen

The Green Lightning Nitrogen machine

Explain why this is an innovation:

Green Lightning has developed a solution to high nitrogen input costs. The proprietary equipment it manufactures and sells takes nitrogen from the atmosphere and binds it into the water that passes through the machine. Similar to what the Haber-Bosch method will do, but instead of using fuel to create the ideal high temperature environment – Green Lightnings machine uses electricity. The system mimics the natural occurrence of nitrogen fixation in water during a lightning storm, more simply put, its lightning in a box. With this machine, a farmer can now be equipped to produce his own nitrogen on his farm and for his farm. The farmer can reduce his carbon footprint by making this fertilizer exactly where it needs to be, on his farm. No shipping overseas to port, then by rail, then by truck. Nytro is the exclusively licensed Canadian distributor for Green Lightning. This year, Green Lightning has expanded it’s product offering to include the new 10 foot seacan container model, capable of producing 5 times the output as the standard 6-head model.

Describe the purpose of this product or service:

The nitrogen created from the Green Lightning process is nearly 100% nitrate. This is the form of nitrogen that’s immediately available to the plant. The product is salt-free so it can be applied at any point during a crops growth cycle without fear of ‘burning’ the crop. Farmers are predominantly using the liquid for foliar application. It is meant to replace the water you use in a sprayer as a carrier for regular agricultural use. This means, while you apply your herbicide or fungicide to your crop, you can also give it a shot of nitrogen – essentially spoon feeding your crop and leading to a reduced need for synthetic nitrogen. There are many customers who have also had success by applying the product with the seed at planting

Spornado
Spornado Sampler

Explain why this is an innovation:

Currently, growers don’t know when disease is in their fields until they see it and it is too late, because fungicides must be used preventatively; timing is everything.

Up until now growers have relied on experience, weather data, and some guesswork to know when to spray fungicides. Our system is the first of its kind that provides air sampling for fungal disease directly to growers.

Describe the purpose of this product or service:

Spornado is an early alert system for crop disease that brings molecular diagnostics to agriculture; providing farmers the data needed to choose and use their fungicides more effectively. Our easy to use and inexpensive air sampler allows them to know when crop disease is in the air long before it’s seen in the field, enabling them to spray precisely; saving time, money, and increasing yields, while improving sustainability.

BUSINESS SOLUTIONS

Lactanet Canada

Transition Management Index (TMI)

Explain why this is an innovation:

The Transition Management Index (TMI) is the first tool available in Ontario designed to provide an objective, comprehensive, and global assessment of the transition period in dairy cows. This innovation empowers producers to optimize management practices during the critical transition period, leading to improved milk production and profitability. By filling a significant gap in the market with an easy-to-use tool, the TMI represents an advancement in how dairy producers assess their herd management.

Describe the purpose of this product or service:

The transition period, the few weeks before and after calving, is the most critical and challenging time for dairy cows. What happens during this window sets the foundation for the entire lactation. Challenges during this phase can have lasting consequences, including a reduction of up to 410 kg of milk per lactation, 17 kg in fat yield, a 19% lower chance of pregnancy, and twice more risk of pregnancy loss and culling. Given the severe impact of these on animal health, milk production, and overall farm profitability, having a tool to accurately assess and monitor the transition period is crucial.

The Transition Management Index (TMI) is an objective tool to assess and monitor transition period management on dairy farms. It is built on a mathematical equation that uses DHI data to compare a cow’s potential milk production (based on past lactation records, genetics, season, health parameters, etc.) with her actual production during the transition period. If the cow experienced a smooth transition, her potential and actual production align closely, resulting in a strong TMI score. However, if the cow went through challenges during the transition period, her production will be below expectations, indicating opportunities for management improvement.

TMI delivers results at both individual cow and herd levels. But it goes beyond measurements; it drives action. Through an interactive dashboard, producers and their advisors gain valuable insights into key areas such as transition management, energy metabolism, udder health, and dry period management. This global assessment enables early problem detection, targeted interventions, and continuous improvement strategies. This could improve cow health, milk yields, and profitability for Canadian dairy farms, all supported by a tool developed in Canada, using Canadian data, for Canadian farmers.

VETSon

VETSon direct Delivery of Veterinary Medication to the Farm

Explain why this is an innovation:

In Canada veterinary practices have to deliver medication themselves to farms or farms have to pick up the medication from the veterinarian’s facility. With practices becoming more distant from the farm delivery is harming veterinary margins, and making accessibility to medication challenging for farms, especially smaller to mid-sized operations. Through VETSon’s ecommerce and prescription module, veterinary practices can create medication lists that farms can order and have shipped to them direct. VETSon’s method is to partner with distributors and pharmacies and who then will ship the product direct to farm on behalf of the veterinary practices. VETSon displays the products and collects the payment on behalf of the veterinary practices, and then ships the order with the prescription details to the distributor or pharmacy. This means the veterinary practice does not have to touch the product – reducing inventory overhead cost, as well as human resource requirements. VETSon is the only service allowed in Canada allowed to provide this innovation through permissions it has obtained by the regulatory bodies as well as exclusive strategic partnerships it has developed.

Describe the purpose of this product or service:

VETSon ecommerce/prescription/shipping service is designed to save time, money and create value add service for large animal veterinary practices (decreased overhead). In short our product is designed to make large animal veterinary practices more viable in the increasing shortages of large animal veterinarians. Haggerty AgRobotics Company, Ltd.

Monarch Electric Tractor

Explain why this is an innovation:

This is a fully functional 70hp electric tractor, with standard hydraulics and PTO. It can operate for over 10 hours per day on a charge. The Monarch is enabled with autonomous functionality, enabling it to drive by itself through orchards or vineyards. The tractor also can image the plants as it passes by, and upload those images to the cloud for the farmer to view at a later date.

The electric capacity of this size of tractor is one of the largest currently available. The tractor operates without vibration or engine noise.

In addition, the electric drivetrain allows for near infinite speed choices, with full power at any speed.

The hitch and controls are calibrated to millimeter accuracy, and specific settings for operation of each implement are stored on the machine, so that these preferences can be preloaded for new operators, making training of staff faster and easier.

The electric platform requires nearly zero maintenance (no engine oil changes, air filters, etc).

The lack of vibration and engine noise also makes this system attractive for feed pushing in dairy barns, or around other livestock. Additionally, it can operate indoors without risk of pollution or sickness from fumes.

Describe the purpose of this product or service:

This product is designed to reduce labour cost and strain on employees. While in operation, vineyard and orchard managers can focus on plant health and output, rather than on tedious tasks such as mowing, under vine weed control, or trimming, etc. As the tractor can pull a sprayer, it removes the operator away from the chemical applications.

The electric drivetrain allows for lower emissions, a quieter operator platform. In addition, the system generates significantly lower heat, so you do not have the engine heat impacting the operator. At the same time, the platform provides easy single step entry and exit.

When you come to a stop, there is no need to turn the “”engine”” off, the tractor remains in a ready to go position in lower power mode until you move again.

Nytro / Green Lightning Nitrogen

The Green Lightning Nitrogen machines

Explain why this is an innovation:

Green Lightning has developed a solution to high nitrogen input costs. The proprietary equipment it manufactures and sells take nitrogen from the atmosphere and binds it into the water that passes through the machine.

ROCKSOLAR Canada

Solar DC Bruchless Waterpump system for farmers

Explain why this is an innovation:

1. Energy Independence and Accessibility
Many remote or rural farms lack access to reliable electricity. Diesel or petrol pumps are costly and require frequent refueling and maintenance.
How the solar DC pump helps: Powered entirely by sunlight, the system operates independently of the grid. Farmers can access water for irrigation even in off-grid or blackout-prone regions. It removes dependency on fossil fuels, reducing long-term operational costs.

2. High Efficiency with Brushless DC Motor.
Traditional motors have higher energy losses and wear out faster due to friction and heat. How brushless DC motors innovate: No brushes mean lower friction, less maintenance, and longer lifespan. They offer higher torque-per-watt performance, maximizing water delivery even with limited solar power. Brushless motors allow smart control features, such as variable speed and programmable operation.
3. Sustainable Irrigation and Water Management.
Efficient irrigation is essential for conserving water, especially in arid regions or areas with seasonal droughts. How the system supports sustainability:
Can be paired with drip or sprinkler irrigation systems to reduce water wastage. Operates only during daylight, naturally aligning with plant water needs. Some systems include sensors or timers for optimal water delivery based on crop and soil needs.
4. Low Maintenance and Durability.
Remote farmers often lack access to technical services and spare parts. Advantages of the system: Fewer moving parts mean fewer points of failure.
Brushless motors and sealed designs resist dust and water ingress (often IP65/IP66-rated). Minimal maintenance compared to diesel or AC-motor-based pumps.
5. Environmental and Economic Benefitsbility.
Farmers face increasing pressure to adopt eco-friendly practices and reduce costs. Innovative impact: Solar pumping drastically cuts CO₂ emissions by eliminating fuel combustion. Return on investment (ROI) is high — initial costs are offset by zero fuel costs and low maintenance over time.
Systems are often eligible for government subsidies or grants, further incentivizing adoption.
6. Smart Integration and Future Scalability.
Agriculture is increasingly tech-enabled, with IoT and precision farming. Integration capabilities: Many solar DC pump systems are IoT-ready, enabling remote monitoring, mobile alerts, and automated scheduling. Modular systems can be expanded as farm needs grow (e.g., adding more panels or higher-capacity pumps).

Salford Group

Salford 24-Row Precision Row Crop Cultivator

Explain why this is an innovation:

One of the biggest advantages of the 24-Row Precision Row Crop Cultivator is the higher ground speed. The competitor’s row crop cultivators offer operating speeds of 8 miles per hour or less. A Salford 24-Row RCP at a full speed of 12mph would be able to cover 58.91 acres per hour (assuming 75% efficiency for turning at headlands and slowdowns). While the competitors’ 24-row would cover 39.27 acres per hour (75% efficiency). For a 1000-acre farm, the RCP would require approximately 16 hours and 58 minutes for one cultivation pass while the competitor’s cultivator would require approximately 25 hours and 28 minutes per cultivation pass. This means 8 hours and 30 minutes of saved time for each pass. At the end of a year, and assuming every acre requires three cultivation passes, a 1000-acre farm would reduce cultivation time by approximately 25.5 hours per year.

A 24-row RCP requires a 300+ horsepower tractor for operation. Based on research by the University of Illinois, a 310-horsepower tractor costs approximately $249.10 per hour to operate (overhead, fuel, labor, 2023 study). Using the numbers above, the RCP would provide a 1000-acre farm with savings of up to $6352.05 per year based solely on the operating speed and reduced time required for each cultivation pass. https://farmdoc.illinois.edu/assets/management/machinery-costs/machinery-cost-estimates_summary_2023.pdf

The row unit section control on the RCP Cultivator reduces crop damage on headlands and point rows. Each row unit can lift automatically based on a coverage map, reducing crop damage in select areas. As an example, an operator running a 24-row cultivator (60-foot implement width) may encounter point rows or angled headlands that run at a 45° angle. If the operator runs through the headland or point rows, the area of damaged crop would be 1800 square feet. If the cultivator is set to a 26-inch cultivation width per row, approximately 87% of the area would be affected by cultivation (assuming 30-inch row spacing), meaning 1566 square feet (0.03595 acres) of the crop within the 1800 square-foot area would be damaged. Using an average organic corn yield of 136 bushels per acre (2023 Purdue Data) and a market price of $6.56 per bushel (2024 USDA Data), the income loss would be approximately $32.07 for each pass in this example. Assuming a field has 50 of these 1800 square feet sections, $1,603.50 of income would be saved. Across more fields with the section control on the 24-Row Precision Row Crop Cultivator, these savings would add up quickly, allowing operators to cultivate every acre and avoid leaving areas unworked which would then be overgrown with weeds.

Conventional and Organic Enterprise Net Returns

https://www.ams.usda.gov/mnreports/lsbnof.pdf

The precision guidance features on the RCP Cultivator provides improved accuracy required for effective weed control management. The standard equipped camera and wand guidance system works in conjunction with a side shift module to center the row units on the machine with the planted crop rows. If the cultivator is not perfectly in line with the crop row, damage to the crop can occur, reducing income. Without this technology on a manual machine, an operator is required to spend significant amounts of mental energy focusing on the row, centering the machine on the row so as not to damage crops. This requires expertise and a large mental capacity. The mental capacity and focus spent through a long day would leave operators drained, increasing the risk of damaging crop as fatigue sets in. When the guidance system is utilized, it means the operator is not required to focus on the row where the computer system does this for the operator. This improves the ease of use, ergonomics, and mental load required of the operator. The computer analyzes data and centers the machine on the row automatically. This allows the operator to focus on more qualitative things such as the quality of the job, performance and any required adjustments. This technology further reduces the need for skilled labor and allows a wider range of operators to operate the machine.

Each row unit on the RCP features easy adjustments in a few key areas, allowing the producer to adjust to the given crop conditions. Side sweeps, rear sweep angle, finger weeders and hilling boards are examples of adjustments that can be made by the operator to manage these varying conditions. Gauge wheels and cutting coulters are mounted to the front of the row unit offer flotation for accurate depth control and a blade to cut through weed residue. Smaller adjustable side sweeps behind the gauge wheels can be placed close to the crop to manage weeds. Behind the side sweeps is the large center sweep with an adjustable hilling board to control weeds between the adjacent rows and inside adjacent rows. Finger weeders then follow behind the center sweep to control weeds within the crop row. With all the adjustments and performance advantages, the row unit design is an important part of the Salford Precision Row Crop Cultivator.

Describe the purpose of this product or service:

The Salford Precision Row Crop Cultivator is designed for use in commercial row crop production, specifically for precision weed management in organic production, where herbicide resistance is an issue, or where herbicide use is restricted. Featuring the 12-row, 16-row and NEW for 2025, 24-row cultivator, the Precision Row Crop Cultivator lineup provides weed management solutions for any farm size. The RCP targets the critical window of crop production throughout the growing season, addressing both between-row and in-row weed control with advanced guidance systems. It is versatile enough to be used from early growth stages through to later stages when the crop has canopied, adapting to the changing needs of the crop throughout its lifecycle.

The key features supporting its use include:
1. Innovative sweep design for high-speed weed removal between crop rows
2. Finger weeders and hilling boards for targeting in-row weeds
3. Adjustable tools to accommodate the different growth stages and crop types
4. Advanced guidance system for precise cultivation
The RCP’s adaptive guidance system and high productivity ensures accurate cultivation throughout the growing season, from emergence to late season. Which enhances the efficiency and effectiveness of weed control in row crop production, contributing to improved yield potential and reduced reliance on chemical herbicides.

Describe target market(s):

Salford’s Precision Row Crop Cultivator will primarily benefit organic row crop producers, specifically those growing corn and soybeans with 30-inch row spacing. Additionally, this will also provide benefits to conventional growers who are struggling to manage weeds with continued herbicide use. Herbicide resistant weeds have become a growing concern for conventional growers who may need to rely on mechanical weed control options in the future. Growers with oddly shaped fields will significantly benefit from the section control feature to allow for cultivation to the end of every row without damaging the crops in headlands and point rows, allowing them to maximize productive acreage. The high-speed operation of up to 12 mph versus the current standard of 8 mph significantly reduces cultivation time which is specifically crucial for multiple passes required in organic production, but till also provide improved efficiency and profitability for growers of all sizes.

List main direct or indirect competitor(s):

There are only a couple competitors in the row crop cultivator market that offer producers with a 24-row cultivator. Notably the Orthman 8000 Series and Horsch Transformer VF. However, the Salford Precision Row Crop Cultivator stands out as superior in several key areas: 1. Comprehensive Standard Features: Camera guidance, side shift system and section control all included as standard features. Most of these competitors either do not include these features entirely or offer as optional add-ons. 2. Superior Operating Speeds: The innovative sweep design allows for speeds up to 12 miles per hour, which significantly outperforms the typical 8 mph limit of many of the competing cultivators. The increased speed provides greater efficiency and productivity for farmers. 3. Advanced Down Pressure System: The hydraulic dual-zone down pressure system is unique to Salford. Allowing operators to adjust to changing soil and crop conditions from the cab, effectively combating wheel-track compaction which is a feature not found in competitive models. 4. Versatile Guidance System: Salford’s camera guidance system is more comprehensive, providing guidance for early-stage crops and a wand-based system for mature crops. 5. Wider Side Shift Range: Salford offers a 20” side shift range which offers greater flexibility than the competitor’s 14-18” side shift range.

The Razor’s Edge Concaves represent a true leap forward in harvesting technology—addressing long-standing inefficiencies that have plagued farmers for decades. Conventional concave systems force operators into compromises: crop-specific setups, fixed bar spacing, and reliance on cover plates or inserts that disrupt material flow, increase downtime, and reduce efficiency.
Our patented variable spacing design changes the game. It mirrors crop flow—tight at the entry point for aggressive threshing, then gradually widening toward the rear to optimize separation, prevent overload, and reduce clogging. This means one set of concaves can handle multiple crops, in multiple conditions, on multiple brands of rotor combines—without mid-season swaps or cover plates.
Key Innovations:
• Patented variable spacing: Mirrors natural crop flow, delivering aggressive threshing up front and improved separation at the back.
• Multi-crop adaptability: Works without cover plates, inserts, or frequent adjustments—eliminating mid-season downtime.
• Dual performance advantage: Combines the threshing power of a small wire concave with the smooth flow of a round bar—features that previously required separate setups.
• Notched bar design: Promotes grain-on-grain threshing for higher grain quality and reduced kernel damage.
• Laser-clad edge: Stays sharp as it wears, extending product life to 6–8 years, reducing replacement costs and manufacturing waste.
• High-yield readiness: Designed to handle modern, high-yielding crops without bottlenecks—ensuring consistent, reliable performance.

Describe the purpose of this product or service:

Razor’s Edge is built to help farmers harvest more efficiently, profitably, and sustainably—while reducing downtime, labor, and crop loss. By eliminating the need for crop-specific concaves, cover plates, and inserts, it saves hours during harvest and prevents costly interruptions.
It delivers:
• Higher yields through reduced grain loss.
• Better grain quality via gentler threshing action.
• Smooth, efficient operation across a wide range of crops and conditions.
• Reduced clogging, mechanical strain, and maintenance needs—extending combine life and improving operator safety.
• A smarter, more sustainable harvest through fewer parts, less waste, and lower fuel consumption.

Describe target market(s):

The primary market is grain producers and custom harvesters worldwide operating rotor combines—especially in North America, Latin America (including Brazil), Australia, South Africa, and Europe—who grow crops such as wheat, corn, soybeans, and canola. Ideal customers include: • Large-scale grain farmers seeking to minimize downtime and maximize ROI. • Custom harvesters managing diverse crop rotations. • Dealers and aftermarket distributors looking for versatile, high-performance products that stand out from OEM offerings.

BioFerScience Inc

ProFlora Post-Calving Calcium Bolus

Explain why this is an innovation:

We’re proud to introduce ProFlora Post-Calving Calcium Bolus, the first and only calcium bolus designed and manufactured in Ontario specifically to support calcium levels in fresh cows after calving.

The Canadian market is currently saturated with calcium boluses imported from the U.S. and Europe. These products are all manufactured using the same slurry method, which involves mixing calcium with other ingredients and water, pouring the mixture into molds, allowing it to solidify over several hours (or up to a day), and then covering imperfections with a wax coating.

This traditional method has key drawbacks:

It produces a very hard bolus with thick wax coating.

It often delays dissolution, reducing the speed at which cows absorb the calcium they urgently need after calving.

The addition of water and solidifying agents contributes to this slow-release issue.

At BioFerScience, we’ve developed a unique, water-free manufacturing method that eliminates the need for wax coatings entirely. Our proprietary process results in a smooth, defect-free outer layer—meaning no wax is required, and the bolus dissolves faster in the cow’s rumen.

This innovation was made possible with support from IRAP (NRC Industrial Research Assistance Program), and our in-house machinery enables us to produce a substantial daily output—ensuring both high availability and competitive pricing.

ProFlora Bolus is proudly 100% Canadian-made, with all raw materials sourced locally.

What sets ProFlora apart:

Rapid dissolution—the fastest on the market

Probiotic-enhanced formula

Contains three types of calcium, fortified with vitamin D3 and magnesium oxide

No water, no wax, and no compromises

ProFlora is currently distributed by several veterinary services across the country, and by EastGen, a leading genetics company. The feedback we’ve received has been overwhelmingly positive, particularly in regard to its performance and ease of use.

If you’re looking for a truly innovative, Canadian-made solution for fresh cow calcium support, ProFlora is it.

Describe the purpose of this product or service:

Milk fever is a common issue in dairy cows, particularly those in their second lactation or beyond. To address this, many dairy farms rely on calcium boluses to restore and maintain essential calcium levels in fresh cows immediately after calving.

ProFlora Post-Calving Calcium Bolus stands out by offering more than just calcium support. Its unique formulation, which includes three forms of calcium and probiotics, not only helps prevent milk fever but also promotes healthier rumen fermentation. This leads to improved digestion and a smoother postpartum recovery for the cow.
