TWO NEW FIELD DEMONSTRATIONS ANNOUNCED

A feature characteristic of Canada’s Outdoor Farm Show is the large-scale field demonstrations that bring the latest agriculture innovation and technology to farmers in real field conditions. This year’s 25th anniversary edition is no different with two brand new demonstration features: Tackling Corn Stalks and Variable Rate Seeding.

Each year after harvest farmers face the challenge of dealing with leftover corn stalks, often choosing some type of tillage solution. The Tackling Corn Stalks demonstration challenges equipment manufacturers to present their best corn stalk management solution on a strip of corn stalks to achieve 35% ground cover. Both strip tillage and conservation tillage equipment is welcome. This type of demonstration goes further than comparing different brands and allows farmers to start with comparing different types of equipment to determine what will best handle this situation on their farm.

Crop production practices continuously evolve to maximize yields while reducing input costs. Through soil testing and field mapping, farmers can use different planting rates in different parts of a field for the most effective seed input. The Variable Rate Seeding demonstration will give farmers a firsthand comparison of different planting machinery. In addition to seeing how the equipment operates during planting, a strip will be planted three weeks in advance so that attendees can assess emergence. Manufacturers will have the option of planting corn or soybeans.

Stay tuned! Demonstration participants will be announced this summer.

Tackling Corn Stalks will take place at 12:30 pm and Variable Rate Seeding at 1:30 pm, in the Southwest Demo Field. The 25th anniversary edition of Canada’s Outdoor Farm Show will take place September 11, 12 & 13, 2018 in Woodstock, Ontario.
